Sai Baba Spiritual Group Planting

It was a beautiful May afternoon when the members of the Sai Baba Spiritual Community Group arrived at Mississauga Valley Park . More than 70 members of all ages came together to enjoy the outdoors and plant 300 native trees and shrubs. For Evergreen staff who provided on-the-ground support, it was inspiring to see such a large group, ranging from youth to elders, come together with the common goal of greening their community.

This event was part of a longstanding partnership between Evergreen and the City of Mississauga that aims to enhance green space across the city. Since 2005, more than 4,400 native trees, shrubs and wildflowers have been planted by community groups and volunteers in the Mississauga area. Along with Evergreen's other tree-planting initiatives in the GTA, this work is supported by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources – Evergreen Urban Tree Planting Partnership, through which Evergreen will facilitate the planting of 100,000 trees in Ontario in 2008 and 2009.
