National Seva Project for 2011 - Concerted Community Services

Swami has said:

"What exactly is selfless service? It is the very essence of devotion, the very breath of a devotee, his very nature. It springs from the actual experience of the devotee, an experience that convinces that all beings are God’s children, that all bodies are altars where God is installed, that all places are His residences."

- Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 5 page 327

Our Organization at National and Regional levels has been promoting service activities. The aim of choosing a National Service Project for every year is to take up a service activity which is important to the communities and provides us the opportunity to do it together in a concerted manner across Canada.

The project should also speak volumes for the organization and help the members benefit in their spiritual growth as is evident from the above quote from Bhagawan.

We had chosen Blood Donation, Preserving Mother Nature as the National Service Projects for 2009 and Ceiling on Desires in 2010. The response from different regions has been good. As always, there is much more we could do. We will continue these projects in the year 2011 as well. In fact, Preserving Mother Nature has been adopted as a Joint National Education and Service Project.

For 2011, we will be adopting another project - Concerted Community Services Project. The idea is to perform the service activities in a selected community in a City and all the centres in the area together participate in the community service project. Whatever service we do will be in the selected community. It could be some are all of the stated services:

  • Feeding the needy people through shelters or on the streets
  • Collection and donation of no perishable food items to the Food Banks
  • Environmental Projects such as Tree Planting and Park cleaning
  • Blood Donation
  • Help at the Hospitals and Old age homes
  • Helping those in need during Christmas by donating clothing, food etc.
  • Tutoring local needy children for the school work in a community centre
  • Helping people with vision difficulties through CNIB
  • Donation of blankets and warm clothing during winter

If required, we will coordinate with the City or local agencies and work with them.
